Sicily

The largest island in the Mediterranean but also the largest region of Italy, and the poorest. Having been invaded over the years by just about everyone, it's probably most famous for the Mafia who have been particularly efficient in holding a control over the island and beyond. They, plus the largest active volcano in Europe of course !

This gallery concentrates on a small medieval town on the northern coast called Cefalu. First mentioned in 396 BC, it's a charming town at the foothill of a steep fortified hill and surrounded by water on two sides. Sleepy in winter and packed for the holiday season, it's worth the trip for the ice cream alone !
